Directors Who Blog: The Movie Production Blog Round-Up

Here we are in the year 2006 and more and more the concept of blogging is becoming a force to be reckoned with. We’re seeing blogs used in a million different ways, not the least of which is marketing and promoting an upcoming movie. I’m not sure if it was Peter Jackson who started the trend with his web featurettes during the making of Lord of the Rings, but he certainly cemented the idea with his King Kong video diaries (and releasing them as a standalone DVD package to boot). While I’m not a big fan of seeing behind the scenes materials before I see the actual movie, blogs are clearly a great way to keep your fans in the loop about all the latest developments on set. Here are links to a few blogs from movies that are currently in production… feel free to add any others that you know of in the comments!

Rocky Balboa – Yeah this is a pretty sad excuse for a blog, but it is currently the only place to get photos from the movie.
Clerks 2 – Kevin Smith certainly knows how to cater to his fans… this is probably one of the best and most frequently updated video blogs going.
Sunshine – The new movie from Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, 28 Days Later) is a sci-fi thriller of sorts, written by Alex Garland.
Frank Miller’s 300 – A historic epic based on a graphic novel by Frank Miller, and directed by Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead remake).
Superman Returns – Bryan Singer is doing a great job of giving the Superman fans their internet fix.
Hot Fuzz – Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) have started video blogs for their new action-comedy.
Hellboy Animated Series – Okay, so it’s not a movie, but I thought some people would be interested in seeing this.

  1. i think that the more information given on these blogs about upcoming movies makes it less appealing to go to the theaters. i like to be surprised during a movie, i dont like going in and coming up disappointed because i saw all the good parts on a blog.

  2. I agree…I love mystery.
