Trailer and Website For Documentary “Favela Rising”

Here’s an interesting documentary that’s been getting some good buzz from various festivals this year. It’s called Favela Rising, and it’s about Anderson Sá, a former drug trafficker from the ghetto in Rio de Janeiro who helped form a movement called AfroReggae, fusing hip hop music and Afro-Brazilian dance to give a form of hope and an alternative to drugs and gang violence. It seems a bit like City of God meets Rize if you will. At the moment the movie is still being screened on the festival circuit, so I’m not sure when we might see it in theatres or on DVD. Check out the official website for a trailer and more info on this fascinating movie.
