Marilyn Manson Directing Phantasmagoria: The Visions Of Lewis Carroll
From Twitch Film (via Film Rot) comes news that the first images have appeared online for Marilyn Manson’s upcoming film Phantasmagoria: The Visions Of Lewis Carroll. Wait a minute — hold the phone. Marilyn Manson is directing a movie? I vaguely recall hearing something about this, but I guess I missed the official announcement a couple months ago. Isn’t it bad enough that we already have Rob Zombie unleashing his “uncompromising artistic vision” on the film world? Okay I know some people actually like Zombie’s films, and to be honest, I do think Marilyn Manson is a talented and interesting guy beneath all that make-up. Plus this movie sounds like a perfect fit. Phantasmagoria is not based on the 1995 Roberta Williams video game, but rather it is a biopic of sorts about Lewis Carroll, author of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, where his disturbing and strange imagination overlaps with his real life. I guess it’s kind of like a twisted version of Finding Neverland. Manson had said before that he would do a series of short films to be released on his website, followed by the feature film, although it is unclear whether or not the short films are still happening. RooTV has a video of a press conference from the Berlin Film Festival where Manson discusses his motives for making the movie. Check out images from the movie at the link below.

There was an old computer game with the same title. i wonder if its the same thingy.
Posted by Chian on March 29th, 2006I don’t think the game was based on any of Lewis Carroll’s stories or anything, it just used the title because it sounded cool.
Posted by Sean on March 29th, 2006I think that it’s just going to look good but have no substance. I have a feeling Marilyn Manson is like Madonna: Knows how to put on a show and can perform but can’t act their way out of a wet paperbag. On the site it talks about Marilyn Manson “honing his chops” as an actor. Party Monster, Jawbreaker and Lost Highway come up and I looked up his filmography on IMDB and it also says he played a bartender in Rise. Hmmm, I don’t remember him do anything in any of those movies that would warrent him honing a craft of any sort.
Posted by jackson on March 29th, 2006could be interesting, i havent seen any of zombies flicks, but i would be interested in seeing mansons.
Posted by Chopper on March 30th, 2006I have seen manson actin in films and he does manage to play the parts quite well, as in party monster where he plays the character “christina”. I am looking forward to this one.
Posted by Louise on December 13th, 2006I think Mansons film will be the best thing that ever happened, because hes having magicians doing the special effects right? I mean has anyone done that… simply mansons thoughts are genuine, even maybe involving the crazy themes of hitchcock. Rob zombies films are twisted but i just think mansons film Phantasmagoria would be better because his thoughts of life and government are simply true
Posted by Sierra B. on April 11th, 2007I am so happy that Manson has decided to direct. I have been dreaming of the day that i could watch a Marilyn Manson film.
Posted by Becky on January 9th, 2008..Just thought I’d add that phantasmagoria is a word above all else..theres been several things with it as a title. This film should be great, he’s obviously very creative and more intelligent than people give him credit for. I can’t wait to see it…now if only he would get it out to the public some time…it was supposed to come out last year…
