Oh, what a surprise… it’s another horror movie on the way! This one plays the “true story” card in the same vein as The Exorcism of Emily Rose (minus the courtroom drama hopefully), and stars Donald Sutherland and Sissy Spacek. An American Haunting is set in the 1800’s and tells the story of “the only documented case in U.S. history (validated by the State of Tennessee) in which a spirit caused a person’s death”, otherwise known as the legend of the Bell Witch. I have to admit, horror movies that are based on true stories, when done right, definitely have the potential to be more frightening than usual. I like the fact that this is set in the 1800’s as well, although it does immediately bring to mind The Others. The one misgiving that I do have about this movie is that director Courtney Solomon previously helmed the Dungeons & Dragons movie. Yikes. An American Haunting hits theatres on May 5th, peep the trailer below… if you dare!
