Christopher Walken Joins Ping Pong Comedy Balls of Fury
By now everyone is more than familiar with Christopher Walken’s talent as a comedic actor, particularly from his past appearances on Saturday Night Live. The only problem is, no one gives him much of a chance to showcase this talent on the big screen. With the exception of The Wedding Crashers, I can’t remember the last time he was in a decent comedy. Well now it looks like he might get his chance to shine in a new comedy about ping pong being prepped by Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!). The movie is called Balls of Fury (ah yes, the “balls” pun works wonders for any sports movie) and it sounds like it consists of equal parts Shaolin Soccer and Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. Walken will star as Fang, an evil crimelord who enjoys the game of ping pong so much that he decides to hold an underground tournament. The C.I.A. sees their chance to infiltrate his lair and recruits a disgraced table tennis player (Dan Fogler) to enter the tournament, offering him a chance at redemption. Come on, you gotta admit this has potential. Give Walken the ball and let him run with it, that’s what I say! Balls of Fury is scheduled to start production this spring.
