Eli Roth To Direct Stephen King’s “Cell”
It looks like yet another Stephen King novel is on its way to a big screen adaptation, as Dimension Films have picked up the rights to King’s recent novel Cell, and tapped Cabin Fever/Hostel director Eli Roth to helm the flick. Under normal circumstances, news like this would probably just go in one ear and out the other for me because let’s face it, Stephen King is a writer who is way past his prime. But something about the synopsis of his new novel caught my attention. First off, it’s about zombies. Secondly, the zombies are created by an electrical pulse that is sent through cell phones across the world, wiping the brains of whoever happened to be talking on it at the time — turning them into “crazed, murderous zombies”. This leaves the techno-have-nots to fight for their lives against all the cell phone junkies of the world. Awesome. I can’t help but notice that this sounds like the plot to an Asian horror flick like The Ring, Pulse, or yes, the Korean movie Phone. Eli Roth himself said he couldn’t put the book down. I look forward to hearing more about this project, although at the moment Roth is currently busy preparing for Hostel 2.

Posted by Chopper on March 15th, 2006Fuck you idiot, “King is past his prime.” Yeah, that’s why his novels sell by the millions while you talk shit about him on some website. You’re a failure.
Posted by fuck yourself on August 30th, 2006anyone who uses ‘more money = better than’ to prove a point is a moron.
Posted by Goon on August 31st, 2006Anybody calling themself “fuck yourself” is a moron.
But you already knew that.
Posted by Henrik on August 31st, 2006I read the book and thought it was actually pretty good. I think it was one of his better newer books. I myself am actually excited for a movie adaptation of the book.
Posted by stephen king phan on January 19th, 2007this dosen’t sound good at all . i think they should get rob zombie to write and direct a re-make of “IT” by steven king . one that is true to the book. in my opinion that would be a great movie to re-make , the special effects would be better 2

Stephen King is not nearly as popular or

There was a time when a King release could be
considered a mainstream purchase, rather than
just something for [his readers]. While Cell is,
in my opinion, his best non-short story work yet,
building the horror on a foundation of present day
science fiction, most readers of King tend to feel
that he reached his prime in the more supernatural
stories like IT or The Stand. Whether this is because
they prefer the style of the younger King, or simply
because they themselves were younger when they
read those books, doesn’t really matter.
They are entitled to their opinions and unless you can
learn to handle that without calling them idiots or telling
them to fuck themselves for expressing those opinions
on their own web space, I suggest you stay away
from the Internet.
To C.Blackburn,
While i am sure u think you are a very sound mind when it comes to main stream literature I thought I might clue you in on a few things.
1) True SK is not as active now as he was—-he was hit by a van and nearly killed, that might slow anyone down a bit.
2) It is hard to say that someone reached their peak when you are talking about a writer, there really is no peak, SK has simply evolved as a writer.
Thanks for listening A$$HO!&

Posted by OMFG!!!!!! on March 17th, 2008King may be past his prime, but someone may want to tell him that. While you morons sit around Bitching about “good name..Not!” And “King is Past his prime”, Stephen King continues to have a vital role in modern literature. However I have a complaint. WHEN IS THERE GOING TO BE A GOOD MOVIE VERSION OF IT!?!? The original sucked big time! Someone needs to make a movie for theaters so they have more leway.
Posted by Shepp1121 on March 30th, 2008I loved the book but i am kinda scared that eli Roth is making it into a movie. All he seems to care about is sex & gore.
