Ringu and the Grudge are esentially asian versions of Friday the 13th. the only difference is that we don't notice how generic and conventional they are because we're not well-versed in asian cinema. there's been a whole bunch of Ringu ripoffs but they they seem much more original to us because the style is much different than the American genres we're used to. well the differences are cultural.
