New Aquaman Chosen, Ving Rhames Signs On For Pilot
Now that the WB has merged with UPN to become the CW, it appears they’ve been rethinking some of their upcoming TV properties including Aquaman. Surprisingly, after making a big announcement last month that Will Toale would be donning the Aqua suit, it looks like they’ve found someone who looks even more attractive when wet. They’ve cut Toale loose and instead decided to go with Justin Hartley, a former star of NBC soap opera Passions. CW gave little explanation other than, “We’ve decided to go in a different direction with the Aquaman role”. Not that there’s a noticeable difference between the two actors… they both even performed on Broadway. In other news, Ving Rhames has signed on for the pilot to play McCaffery, a lighthouse keeper and mentor to Aquaman. It’s still unclear whether or not he would have a continuing role in the series. Now, here’s my favourite bit of news about this show: similar to Smallville, it sounds like the series will be tentatively named after its location rather than its main character: “Mercy Reef”. Hopefully they are planning a crossover with The O.C. at some point in the near future.
