Much as I loved this film (and it took a while--Burton is, for some, an "acquired taste"!), I think it stands alone well. My sister lives in one of places it was filmed (in VT) and that makes it even weirder, since the area really is beautiful! I loved watching Catherine O'Hara as the effete art snob and Jeffrey Jones (remember him as the emperor in "Amadeus"?), as the downtrodden husband. Ryder was great, as always! Jim Carrey? I'm sure he'll do fine, but why not Timmothy Stack? He kind of looks like Ripley. Either way, looking very forward to this as a fan of Robert L. Ripley and an even bigger fan of Tim W.
