Trailer For “Special” Starring Michael Rapaport
My first thought when hearing about Hal Haberman and Jeremy Passmore’s movie Special was that it’s been done a million times before… but now after watching the trailer I’m not so sure. The basic idea is that a lonely meter maid named Les Franken (Michael Rapaport) takes an experimental anti-depressant called Specioprin Hydrochloride that ends up giving him super powers. Or at least he thinks it does. His doctor tells him he’s actually just having hallucinations as a side effect from the drug, but Les is convinced that he has been given a gift and that he is destined fight crime. This could easily have been just another mediocre comic book spoof, but instead it seems to be more of a dark comedy about a lonely guy with a desire for something more in his life. Michael Rapaport is hilarious in this trailer, and the low budget appearance makes me think this film will end up being something like Unbreakable meets Primer meets a Philip K. Dick book. Special played at Sundance last month; no word yet on when it might see an official release. Check out the trailer now at the site linked below.
