Genndy Tartakovsky To Direct Dark Crystal Sequel
A while back there came news that The Jim Henson Company was working on a sequel to their 1982 fantasy film “The Dark Crystal” and that original screenwriter David Odell was set to write the script. However, there was no indication as to who might direct such a thing, and the project went quiet for a while. This week a director has finally been announced, and while it’s a name that I certainly never expected to hear, it’s one that should give this film a fighting chance. Genndy Tartakovsky (“Samurai Jack”, “Star Wars: Clone Wars”) will finally make the jump to his first major non-animated project, and when you think about it, he’s the perfect choice. He knows how to maintain a dark tone with a medium that is intrinsically childish, and his slightly warped creative vision is ideal for this movie (not to mention, he should appease all the outspoken fanboys who have dreaded the making of this film). “The Power of the Dark Crystal” will go into production sometime this summer, using muppets placed in computer generated environments. My only question is what this will mean for the feature-length Astroboy film that Tartakovsky was working on for Sony.

After all of this time I doubt that a Genndy Astro Boy movie will happen. This project has been in limbo for so many years and I’ve never heard any confirmation on whether it would be live action or animated, though the popular theory was that it would be live action.
Dark Crystal freaked the shit out of me. Hope a sequel can do the same.
