Kanye West and His Jesus Christ Pose: Too Far?
As many people have probably heard/seen by now, Kanye West adorns the cover of this month’s issue of Rolling Stone wearing a crown of thorns. The provocative caption reads, “The Passion of Kanye West”. As expected, this has opened the floodgates of outrage from Christian groups who insist that it is just a cheap ploy to sell the mag, not to mention sacreligious. Which of course it is, because as we all know Kanye isn’t God… Jamie Foxx is. But did Rolling Stone go too far with this cover image? Personally I think it was ingenious, if a little off topic (I guess the tenuous link is Kanye’s 2004 song “Jesus Walks”). It was so obviously set up to stir the pot… and America bought it hook, line and sinker. Jackson also sent in this link to a Village Voice editorial trashing the cover.
