Disney Buys Pixar For $7.4 Billion

After months of speculation, it’s finally official: Disney has purchased Pixar Animation Studios for a cool $7.4 billion. Pixar, makers of such computer animated blockbusters as Toy Story, Monsters Inc and The Incredibles, have had every single one of their movies distributed by Disney up until this point. Their distribution deal would have expired with the release of this year’s upcoming Pixar film Cars. In the beginning it was Disney who helped put Pixar on the map, but clearly the tables have turned and now it’s Disney who needed to maintain close ties with Pixar at any cost. An interesting aspect of the deal is the fact that Pixar CEO Steve Jobs will now sit on the Disney board of directors, but many Pixar fans will no doubt question exactly how much control Disney will have over their future films. One things for sure… fanboys can breathe a sigh of relief as it looks like the long-rumoured Toy Story 3 will finally be in good hands once again.
