Sam Raimi’s Next Project = Kids Fantasy Film?
Sam Raimi is hard at work bringing Spider-Man 3 to screens for May 2007 (reportedly the last installment of the Spider-Man franchise), but it seems that he’s already thinking ahead and planning what may be his first post-Spiderman project. Sony has acquired the rights to Terry Pratchett’s book “Wee Free Men”, with Raimi attached to direct and Pamela Pettler (”Corpse Bride”, “Monster House”, “Sabrina the Teenage Witch”) to write the script. Pratchett is a well-respected fantasy author, best known for his Discworld series; Wee Free Men is sort of like the young reader’s introduction to this series. The story centers on 9-year-old Tiffany Aching, whose little brother is kidnapped by the Queen of the Fairies, and she sets out to rescue him with the help of a band of rough and tumble Scottish pixies. From the sounds of it, Raimi has been bitten by the Narnia/Harry Potter bug… I smell another family-friendly blockbuster on the horizon.
