Hollywood Sign Being Auctioned Off Via E-Bay
Do you want to own a historically significant pop culture icon? Of course you do. And you’re in luck, because the owner of the world famous Hollywood sign has put it up for bid on E-Bay at the low low starting price of $300,000!!! The way I understand it, this is not just signing over ownership of the current sign that is up on the hill. This guy is selling the actual pieces of the original Hollywood sign that was built in 1923 and replaced in 1978. It’s a “perfect holiday gift for someone that has everything”! Check out the auction for an interesting history lesson on the sign. There’s no bids so far, but hurry up and get yours in… this is a once in a lifetime opportunity! The auction closes on Nov. 26th.

That’s weird because I just read that they were dumping a whole bunch of money into restoration of that sign. Maybe apon inspection they just decided to make a new one.
Posted by jackson on November 24th, 2005my father owns a square foot piece of the original 1923 sign, it hangs framed in our living room. He got it in the early 80’s after they replaced it the first time. Some guy owed him money and couldn’t pay up, so he gave my dad the sign piece instead.
This eBay guy could make a lot more selling it in smaller chunks.
Posted by manic panda on November 24th, 2005I wouldn’t want it for free.
Posted by Bassmasta-Baychuk on November 25th, 2005That’s pretty cool because in the E-Bay auction they mention that some pieces of the sign are missing. If someone actually pays $300,000 for it, your dad should get in touch with the person and try to sell his piece to him for some serious coinage.
