Link Wray Dead At Age 76

I’m not sure how I missed this huge news yesterday, but thanks to marathonpacks and House of Irony for keeping me in the loop. Link Wray, perhaps one of the most important rock legends to ever pick up a guitar, has passed away at the tender age of 76 (I suppose that’s pretty old in rock n roll terms). According to a statement on his official website, “Link passed away in [his family's] arms, safely in his home in Copenhagen, not ever aware that his heart was getting tired.”. Link Wray basically invented every menacing sound you can extract from a guitar, from the power chord to fuzz, overdrive and distortion, and his influence on rock music simply cannot be measured. Many people have probably heard his classic instrumentals “Rumble” and “Jack The Ripper” in the movies Pulp Fiction and Desperado respectively. R.I.P. Wray Man.
