Hollywood Loves Horror Movie Remakes
Hollywood loves horror movies right now. Why? Because they make money. There’s a built-in audience for fright flicks, and since they don’t cost much to make, they almost always turn a profit. However, with all the studios going remake crazy, I think we are nearing saturation point. The following is a list of upcoming horror remakes that are currently in the works… if you ask me, it’s getting out of hand.
Black Christmas – being written/directed by Glen Morgan (Willard), co-produced with James Wong (Final Destination)
Halloween – apparently being produced by the Weinsteins through Dimension Films
The Omen – starring Liev Schreiber, Julia Stiles and Mia Farrow, directed by John Moore (Behind Enemy Lines)
The Hills Have Eyes – being directed by Alexandre Aja (High Tension), original director Wes Craven will produce
The Crazies – Brad Anderson (The Machinist) will direct, original director George A. Romero will produce
The Wicker Man – starring Nicolas Cage and Leelee Sobieski, directed by Neil LaBute (In The Company Of Men)
Evil Dead – Ashton Kutcher won’t be starring, but it looks like it’s still happening
The Birds – Michael Bay’s next remake project after The Amityville Horror, may have been put on hold
2001 Maniacs – from Eli Roth’s production company Raw Nerve, starring Robert Englund aka Freddy Krueger
Day of the Dead – despite what IMDB says, Zack Snyder is not directing – this will be low budget
The Eye – starring Renee Zellwegger, original Japenese director Hideo Nakata will helm
Piranha – they’re remaking Piranha???
