New To Theatres This Weekend – Sept. 30, 2005
Well obviously the major release this weekend is Joss Whedon’s Serenity… it will be interesting to see how well a movie based on a cancelled TV series does. David Cronenberg’s A History of Violence also gets a wide release this weekend, and Everything Is Illuminated makes its debut in a couple of Toronto theatres. Unfortunately it looks like Dave McKean and Neil Gaiman’s trippy effects film “Mirrormask” is not playing anywhere in Canada yet.
The Greatest Game Ever Played
A History of Violence (wide)
Into The Blue
Serenity
Everything Is Illuminated (limited)

so many people i know are all psyched up for Serenity. I don’t care. I think of any of them I wanna go see “History of Violence’
Posted by Goon on September 30th, 2005Well I guess the question is, have you ever seen Firefly? I agree, the fan hype is getting a little out of hand… I’m trying not to get too caught up in it. But I can’t see it being a bad movie, and I can’t remember the last time there was a decent sci-fi movie in theatres. (Star Wars doesn’t count.

Posted by Sean on September 30th, 2005I haven’t seen Firefly. I respect Whedon, but I think his fanboys uh… greatly exaggerate his power.
Posted by Goon on September 30th, 2005I’m pretty psyched about History of Violence and Everything is Illuminated. I saw Thumbsucker and that is a must see in my opinion, one of the most beautifully shot, original coming of age movies I have ever seen.
Posted by jackson on October 2nd, 2005As for Serenity, it looks interesting. However, it seems to come pretty close to my beloved, 8 book “Deathstalker” series by Simon R. Green.
Posted by Baychuk P.I. on October 5th, 2005I saw A History of Violence last weekend. It’s definitely not the typical Cronenburg movie. I thought it was really good. Leave the kiddies at home though.
