‘Chaos’…artistic statement or exploitation?
So a new film called ‘Chaos’ has caused an interesting debate at www.rogerebert.com. Directed by David Defalco (who?), the film has caused some contreversey due to it’s overtly graphic violence and sexuality. Turns out Roger Ebert gave the film ZERO stars and refers to it as ‘Ugly, Nihilistic and Cruel’. Defalco happened to catch the review and responded to Eberts criticism, inciting a pretty interesting debate about extreme violence in film, and where to draw the line, if there is a line to be drawn. So this begs the question…films like Chaos, Baise Moi, Last House on the Left, The Hills Have Eyes, I Spit On Your Grave, etc…exploitation or art?

The film’s official website is http://www.onlyamovie.com. You can watch a trailer there.
It’s interesting that Ebert gave The Devil’s Rejects 3 out of 4 stars and this one zero. While I’m sure it’s not as extreme, it also is an exploitation movie with a lot of violence, but I guess it’s done in a “fun” way.
