The Simpsons Season 6 Alternate Packaging

Good news if you happen to be one of the overly vocal DVD connoisseurs who feel that the abnormally-shaped packaging for The Simpsons Season 6 set will look out of place on your shelf (aka Goon!). It seems that Fox doesn’t want to piss off the hardcore fans, so they have decided to include an insert with the DVD that has a phone number and website where you can request replacement packaging. And I quote:

“For all those anal-retentive nerds who like their DVD boxes to line up perfectly on the shelf… just call for a very derivative, old-style, just-like-before box with almost nothing new or creative to annoy or terrify you. Enjoy!”

No word on whether or not it is free, or how long it is expected to take. Regardless, if you were planning on staging some elaborate protest and boycotting Season 6, well don’t worry friend. Now you can sleep easy tonight and line up outside your favourite DVD store first thing tomorrow morning to buy it after all. However, if you didn’t like the Homer’s head packaging, you should be aware that Fox is planning other season sets based on other family member’s heads… which are of course, even more unshapely.

  1. woo hoo!

    I’ll be doing that anyway…
what I’ve read in reviews thus far about the new packaging says that the new packaging can be easily damaged.

I bet it has a paper case over the side of it a la that one Speed Racer set I saw, and that makes me happier, however if theres French/English packaging on the already reduced paper case size, that’ll really piss me off.

  2. There’s no paper case, there’s a clear plastic slip cover.

  3. saw the packaging today… i dont like it, and thats discounting the issue of how it fits vs. the other sets… even with the slipcover its oddly shaped in width, its just awkward and seems so succeptible to damage.

  4. Just do what I do, buy two and keep one in mint condish!

  5. what possessed the folks at fox to do this? why did they have to change the packaging so drastically? i say if it ain’t broke, than don’t fix it.
