March of the Penguins Documentary To Get Wider Release

Here’s an interesting tidbit from Cinematical this week: apparently the movie with the largest box office take per screen last weekend is not quite what you would expect. Distancing itself from Spielberg and Cruise’s alien invasion blockbuster War of the Worlds, a quiet unassuming documentary about penguins slipped into 20 theatres last weekend and made approximately $26,269 at each one. I guess it had to be Morgan Freeman’s narration right? Actually March of the Penguins looks to be quite cool, an artistic nature documentary in the vein of Winged Migration and Microcosmos. Warner Brothers will be expanding it to 55 screens this weekend, so hopefully more of us can catch it. Check out the official site for a trailer and more info.
