Sufjan Stevens Records New Song for NPR, Album Delayed
Yesterday was supposed to be the official release date for Sufjan Stevens’ new album “Come On Feel The Illinoise” (or is it just “Illinois”?… I can’t be sure), however, you likely won’t be seeing it on store shelves until sometime in August. This is because his label, Asthmatic Kitty Records, was forced to pull the album artwork due to legal troubles with the image of Superman on the cover. Luckily, the eager beavers who pre-ordered the album online via the label have already received their copies, complete with Supes in tact. So yes, we’ll probably be seeing a few of those collector’s items on E-bay in the near future. In the meantime, if you don’t have the album in your hands, you can check out a new song that Sujfan just wrote exclusively for the NPR. “The Lord God Bird” is a song about the small town of Brinkley, Arkansas, based on information gathered from interviews with local townsfolk. The interviews were conducted by NPR producers and passed on to Sufjan as part of this special songwriting exercise. Another quaint little slice of Americana, courtesy of Mr. Stevens.
