Coen Brothers, Charlie Kaufman Direct Radio Dramas

Last month Ain’t It Cool News had a report about a pair of radio plays written and directed by none other than The Coen Brothers and Charlie Kaufman. They were being performed on stage in London and New York as part of something called “Theater Of The New Ear”, and starred such respected names as Meryl Streep, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Marcia Gay Harden. The Coens’ play was called “Sawbones” and Kaufman’s was entitled “Hope Leaves The Theater”. I’ve been sifting through the web looking for additional info, and found that Sirius Satellite Radio apparently recorded one of the shows and plans to broadcast it this summer. Hopefully someone out there in internet land will be able to record it and MP3 it up. In the meantime, check out some detailed descriptions of the plays over at the Coen Brothers fan site, “You Know, For Kids”. In other Charlie Kaufman news, apparently Bob Saget was rumoured to be taking part in the new horror flick he’s doing with Spike Jonze. Interesting…

  1. I have Sirius. I can record it if you know of a way.

  2. I’m wondering if this is some bizarre gag but over at imdb, Bob Saget was originally listed to star in the new Kaufman/Jonze film but then that changed to Dave Coulier and John Stamos and now “Wilson the volleyball” is the only credited cast. What’s the deal, yo?

  3. Hmm… actually the mentioned Coulier and Stamos on the Being Charlie Kaufman website as well but I thought that was a joke by the person who runs the site. It’s looking like all 3 were just a rumour though. And a great one at that.

  4. If you visit the Charlie Kaufman website, read the April 1 update. And keep in mind that it was made on April 1.

The Stamos, Coulier and Wilson the Volleyball items were no doubt all submitted to the IMDB by kindly souls who wanted to keep the dream alive.
