i dont care what the reasoning, anti early series’ Simpsons equals blasphemy. you cant blame the show because people go around quoting it…

its annoying when people quote the lower end of the shows humor, ie Ralph – but a “see you in the car! Milhouse” on a cast is still awesome to me.

To me, its like giving up on a band because they became popular…

I can’t say i was a big enough fan to quote the simpsons during the ‘glory days’ either. The early episodes are completely over played and get less and less funny as time goes on. And it’s not like there’s anything interesting or groundbreaking coming out of the new shows to make up for the old ones that have been driven into the ground. For me, Simpsons quoting is as annoying as Kevin Smith quoting.

I havent heard people quote the Simpsons for years though… isnt it more the problem of other people than the show? I think its unanimous that the new shows aren’t good but the Simpsons in the 90s pretty much revolutionized comedy writing, and played a big part in getting ‘alternative comedy’ onto television/the mainstream…

I see Spiderman shit everywhere… its annoying but I dont go and criticize the movie…

theres no comparing Kevin Smith to the Simpsons. Kevin Smith’s humor has never at any time worked on as many levels as the Simpsons did during its 6 year Golden Age. Kevin Smith really does operate on poop jokes and shallow pop culture references. The Simpsons even now in what are shitty episodes are better social satire than 98% of TV, including cable.

Don’t most things get less funny the more and more you see them? I’m not saying you have to continue to enjoy them, I don’t mean to enforce an opinion here, you’re free to sell your box sets…
but to me: growing weary of something is one thing, going on to say you hate it I find very odd. Theres lots of albums I’ll never listen to any more because I’ve heard them enough or the radio plays certain songs too often etc, but I wouldn’t go and say I “hate” them.

Yes, the simspons and kevin smith’s films are different. But the fans aren’t.

I don’t hate the Simpsons. I don’t hate much, i’m just playing devils’ advocate. I sold my box sets because they were two of the worst seasons, and if i really wanted to watch them, i could just turn on the television at any given time of the day and find the simpsons being played. Or i could just allow the episodes to run through me naturally, by word of mouth and ‘quoting’. I don’t even have to watch the show, all i have to do is exist in North America and I will have seen every episode by word of mouth. “Tastes like burning.” Yes, yes it does taste like burning.

I’m glad to have the Simpsons on DVD because right now there are just as many bad seasons as good seasons, and turning in for syndication is only a 40% chance of hilarity… plus theres so many pieces cut from syndication I’ve never seen before…
