There are rumours floating around the internet this week that Matt Groening’s nerd-centric animated series “Futurama” may be making a comeback. Similar to Family Guy’s recent return to the airwaves, the renewed interest in Futurama seems to be a result of strong sales of the DVD season sets. Executive producer David X. Cohen confirmed that they had spoken to top executives at FOX, who want to do one or possibly more direct-to-DVD Futurama animated movies (this was the original plan for Family Guy’s comeback as well). Currently a budget is being drawn up for the project, and it sounds like there’s a good possibility it may happen in the near future.
