Paul Schrader’s Exorcist Prequel Hits Theatres In May
Morgan Creek Productions has finally decided to give Paul Schrader’s version of “Exorcist: The Beginning” a theatrical release of its own. It remains to be seen whether they have done this willingly or due to a rumoured contractual obligation, but they certainly don’t seem to be giving it much of a chance. The movie will open on May 20th, the same weekend as Star Wars: Episode III… in other words, instant box office death. No other major releases have been planned by any other studios for that weekend. There’s been no mention of how many theatres will screen Schrader’s cut of the movie, though it certainly sounds like it will be a limited release. The movie’s title has also not been confirmed at this time. There’s been speculation that they may use the original working title of the film, “The Exorcist: Dominion”. If they simply call it “The Exorcist: The Beginning” again, you can be sure it’s going to confuse a lot of moviegoers.
