Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant Reteam On “Extras”

As the American remake of The Office currently airs on NBC to fairly decent critical reviews, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, the duo behind the original BBC series, are preparing for their next original project. Coming this summer to BBC Two is the 6-episode first season of their new series “Extras”, which stars Gervais as a struggling actor named Andy Millman and Merchant as his agent. The show will co-star Ashley Jensen as fellow actor Maggie Jacobs, and will feature guest stars every week including the likes of Patrick Stewart, Samuel L Jackson and Ben Stiller. HBO has announced that they will also be bringing Extras to the U.S., most likely sometime this summer as well. Click below to visit the official site and watch a pseudo-trailer for the series.

Robert Rodriguez To Shoot Sin City 2 and 3

It seems that Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller have won over enough audiences with their Sin City movie that Dimension Films has requested two more from them. A “reliable source” at JoBlo.com offers the scoop that Rodriguez will shoot back to back sequels to Sin City starting next February. The thing I am a little unsure about is that the first movie has used strands from most of the existing Sin City stories… is there really enough material left to make 2 more full movies? Or will they need to write all new stories just for the sequels?

Stream Lost and Desperate Housewives Clip Shows Online

ABC is offering viewers a chance to catch up on their two most popular shows as they enter the final stretch leading up to their respective season finales. Both Desperate Housewives and Lost have built up large and dedicated followings in their debut seasons, but some new viewers have been put off by the fact that they have no idea what’s going on in the story. This week both Desperate Housewives and Lost aired clip show episodes to bring people up to date on what they might have missed, and in case you didn’t catch them on TV, you can now watch both episodes online as well. Click below to catch video streams of Lost — “The Journey” and Desperate Housewives — “Sorting Out The Dirty Laundry”.

Trailer For George Romero’s “Land Of The Dead”

Is there still room for anything new in the zombie genre? I think there have been more zombie movies in the last few years than ever before, and the trend shows no signs of stopping. But if anyone can breathe new life into it, you’d think it would be George A. Romero, director of the original “Dead” trilogy: Night Of The Living Dead, Dawn Of The Dead, and Day Of The Dead. This summer he makes his triumphant return with a 4th installment called “Land Of The Dead”, which has been pushed up to a June 24th release date. The movie stars Dennis Hopper, Simon Baker, John Leguizamo and Asia Argento, with cameos from Simon Pegg (Shaun Of The Dead) and Tom Savini (horror FX guru). A trailer is now available online… click below to see whether or not Romero has lost his edge over the years. (It doesn’t look like it to me.)

Ubisoft Announces Prince Of Persia 3

I guess it should come as no surprise that after the success of Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, Ubisoft has decided to follow up with another installment in the Prince of Persia series. My only question is, shouldn’t this actually be Prince Of Persia 5 or 6? I mean, there were other PoP games before The Sands Of Time. Prince Of Persia 3 is scheduled to be released for the X-Box, PS2, Gamecube and PC in the latter half of 2005, most likely one of the last big games to hit the current generation of game consoles. The game will supposedly incorporate two playable characters, a dark prince and a good prince. A teaser website has been launched that includes some screenshots and concept art, with videos and other stuff labelled “coming soon”. Check out some additional screenshots at GameTab.

Trailer For Lars von Trier’s “Manderlay” Online

Lars Von Trier, director of such bleak films as Dancer In The Dark and Dogville, is returning with his next film entitled “Manderlay”. And boy, is it a controversial one. Just check out the new trailer that has appeared online and you’ll understand why. Manderlay is the story of a plantation in the U.S. in the 1930’s where slavery still exists. It is also a continuation of Dogville, which was the first part of a trilogy known as the “USA - Land of Opportunities” trilogy (Grace from Dogville is a main character in this one as well). The movie stars Danny Glover, Willem Dafoe, John Hurt and Jeremy Davies, and Bryce Dallas Howard taking over Nicole Kidman’s role as Grace Margaret Mulligan. Manderlay is still in need of a U.S. distributor, but is expected to be out sometime this year. Check out the trailer linked below.

Guild Wars: An MMORPG Without Monthly Fees

I don’t envy any game that has to try to compete with the runaway popularity of World of Warcraft, however, as of late there is reportedly a flurry of cancellations as many people are not happy with some recent changes Blizzard has introduced into the game. This may pave the way for a game like Guild Wars to establish a decent user base. Released this week from publisher NCSoft, it is a massively multiplayer online role playing game (or “More-Pog” for those in the know) that has no monthly subscription fee. The only cost is the purchase of the game itself (and in the future the purchase of optional expansions). What’s more, the game also boasts much more detailed graphics than WoW (with a higher minimum system requirement no doubt) and a gameplay set up designed to eliminate the tediousness of other games in the genre. Look for it in stores today, and head over to the official site to watch some trailers for the game and get further info.

Official Trailer For Joss Whedon’s “Serenity” Online

If you’re tired of squinting at the grainy handheld Firefly movie trailer footage I posted last week, fret no longer because the official trailer for Joss Whedon’s “Serenity” is now online over at Apple’s website. The trailer does look promising, and they seem to be distancing themselves a bit from the actual TV series as the name Firefly has been dropped from the title completely. I assume they are aiming to make the movie just as enjoyable for people who have never seen the short-lived TV series. Click below to get Whedonized.

Trailer For Jodie Foster in “Flightplan”

MSN has an exclusive trailer up for Jodie Foster’s upcoming movie “Flightplan” right now. I have to admit, it seems quite intriguing, and also has a similar claustrophobic feeling to one of Jodie Foster’s last movies, Panic Room. She plays a mother whose daughter disappears on a plane half-way through a flight, but the crew questions her sanity when she tries to explain this to them. According to their records, her daughter has been dead for some time. Hopefully this isn’t a knockoff of The Sixth Sense, but the mystery does have me hooked. Directed by German director Robert Schwentke, and written by Peter A. Dowling and Billy Ray (Hart’s War, Suspect Zero), Flightplan co-stars Peter Sarsgaard and Sean Bean and hits theatres on September 23rd.
