Lords Of Dogtown Trailer Now Playing Online
I’m not quite sure why they’re making this movie but I guess it can all be attributed to the popularity of skateboarding right now. The superb documentary Dogtown and Z-Boys was great on its own, but now someone felt the need to turn it into a feature film starring Heath Ledger. It’s being directed by Catherine Hardwicke, who previously did the disappointing teen drama Thirteen, but at least the screenplay was written by Dogtown and Z-Boys director (and an original Z-boy himself) Stacy Peralta. Other actors include John Robinson (Elephant) and Emile Hirsch (The Girl Next Door). The trailer is now online and it looks like they’re actually trying to reproduce a lot of the scenes from the documentary. I have to admit, some of the actors look a lot like their real-life counterparts. I will give this movie a chance as the story itself is a pretty interesting one but hopefully they don’t overembellish too much. Lords of Dogtown opens on June 3rd, 2005.

and i would probably do the same thing…
but then everyone on spacejunk would say that i sold out…
or so i thought…
Man what is wrong with making money off of something you created? It makes sense to me and it’s a good story.
Posted by jackson on March 8th, 2005he didn’t create the dogtown skate team though…
Posted by ryan on March 8th, 2005he was savvy enough to capitalize with the documentary and hey… good for him…
this is overkill though…
the documentary didn’t net enough so he has to write a hollywood screenplay???
you know what else irks me??
i can remember reading in some skate magazine when talks of the hollywood version had just begun that actual skaters were going to make up a good chunk(or at least a bad chunk) of the cast…
what the hell happened to that???
that would’ve been cool… like giving something back…
the whole thing reeks of a whore…
Apparently Emile Hirsh is a good skater, that does bug me though too I mean how hard would it have been to get some kid actors who are decent skaters? Maybe the kids in this will pull it off though, the skating they do in that movie is not a feat by todays standards I could do everything they’re doing in that movie what I was 7. Maybe they could have gotten Patrick Fugit he can skate.
