Smallville’s Tom Welling To Star In The Fog Remake
If you thought a remake of John Carpenter’s Assault on Precinct 13 was a bad idea, you definitely won’t like this scoop. Hot young TV stars Tom Welling (Clark from Smallville) and Maggie Grace (Shannon on Lost) have been selected to play the lead roles in a new version of J.C.’s The Fog. While I don’t have anything against either of them (they both fit in just fine on their respective shows), I have to question the trendy direction that this movie seems to be heading in. Then again, Christopher Reeve was great in Carpenter’s own remake of The Village Of The Damned… so maybe casting another Superman could be the right idea after all? The real worrisome thing about this project is the director Rupert Wainwright (no, not Rufus Wainwright). He was the man responsible for that horrid religious thriller Stigmata. Then again, he also directed “Please Hammer, Don’t Hurt ‘Em: The Movie” so he must have some untapped potential in there somewhere.
