The “Other” Alexander Movie Still Planned For 2006

Last year there were two different directors in a race to see who could bring out a movie about Alexander The Great sooner. One of the directors was of course Oliver Stone, who obviously did win the race, and the other was Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet). But with the horrible reviews that were heaped on Oliver Stone’s film, it seemed that Baz and Co. would be foolish to present audiences with a second interpretation of Alexander’s life story anytime soon — if at all. But apparently producer Dino De Laurentiis doesn’t see it that way. He has recently announced plans to continue forward with the project, even going so far as to speculate about where Stone went wrong: “His picture was certainly flawed, and was missing the spine of a screenplay.” Leonardo DiCaprio and Nicole Kidman are still attached to star, and the movie will begin shooting sometime next year. All I really want to know is, will Leo be down with the man-love or what?
