Daniel Johnston Documentary Playing At Sundance
There’s been some cool music documentaries coming out lately (no doubt a result of the rising interest in documentaries in general), and one that I’ve been meaning to post about is Jeff Feuerzeig’s “The Devil And Daniel Johnston”. Focusing on the quirky singer-songwriter Daniel Johnston, who has struggled throughout most of his life with manic depression, the movie mixes live performance footage, home movies, and interviews to tell his story. Coming from a fundamentalist Christian family, and having spent some time with a travelling carnival before taking up residence in Austin, Texas, his music and artwork were eventually embraced by the underground art scene. The movie is playing this month at the Sundance film festival… check out the official website for clips and images, as well as info on future screenings.
