Everquest II Will Serve Up Pizza Hut In Game
In a weird twist on advertising in video games, Sony has teamed up with Pizza Hut to offer Everquest II players a special option in the game. Starting this week, players will be able to type the simple command “/pizza” in order to pop up a dialog box to order a real-world pizza from a local Pizza Hut location. I suppose the idea is to limit the number of reasons why gamers would ever have to leave their computer… food being one of them. But isn’t there something a little bit absurd about this whole situation? The sad thing is, I could see a lot of nerds using this feature. The deal would seem to indicate how desperate Sony is for money at this point, what with World of Warcraft completely dominating the MMORPG populations right now. Chris Morris has an interesting article on this and other forms of advertising in video games over at CNN Money right now.

I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.
