Kurt Wimmer, director of the dystopian sci-fi/action flick Equilibrium, has a new film on the way that is currently in post-production. It’s called “Ultraviolet”, based on the comic book of the same name, and stars Milla Jovovich in the lead role (Wimmer was impressed with her performances in the Resident Evil movies and wrote the part for her specifically). Essentially the movie takes place in the near future with a subculture of genetically-modified humans (read: vampires) at war with the government. I was hoping for Wimmer’s next movie he’d get a chance to work with a bigger budget but it looks like this will probably be another underground b-movie with a cult following. I’m not too sure what to think about the concept either… I for one am sick of vampire movies and this one seems too similar to Underworld. Early reviews indicate that the action is pretty impressive though, one-upping the “Gun-Katas” from Equilibrium. The name of the movie may change, possibly because there is also a British TV series about vampires with the same name. Ultraviolet is planned for release sometime in summer 2005, and hopefully a trailer will be coming soon.
