Official North American Launch Details For Sony PSP Handheld

Here’s the skinny that all the Sony lovers have been waiting for. The Sony PSP Handheld system will hit stores in North America on March 24th, with a price tag of $249 US ($299 Canadian). That cost will get you the PSP “Value Pack” which includes the system plus a 32MB Memory Stick, headphones with remote control, battery pack, AC adapter, soft case, and a sampler disc containing game demos, music, movies and videos. The first million units will also get a free UMD copy of Spider-Man 2 (the movie) for viewing on the PSP. It seems like Sony is really trying to promote the PSP as not just a gaming system but also a portable media device, in the hopes of generating demand much like the DVD player helped sell tons of Playstation 2 units a few years ago. As for the all-important launch titles, some of the games that will be available during the “launch window” include Metal Gear Acid, Spider-Man 2, Ridge Racer, Twisted Metal: Head On, Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower, Tony Hawk’s Underground 2 Remix, and a bunch of EA and Sony sports titles. Of course, how many of these will actually be in stores on the day the system comes out remains to be seen. Let the handheld wars begin!
