It's funny reading this post because I was just browsing through an old Vice magazine the other day and read an article on Ken Park. I never heard about it coming to theatres and I can understand why, but I wonder if you can get it on DVD anywhere. I always feel compelled to watch Larry Clark films and yet I always feel hollow after I see them. Why? I don't know. After a lot of consideration of his work I really find little artisitic value in it and just a bunch of legal, fucked up teen porn. I can make arguments for defending Clark's artistic visions but I usually come back to the fact that I think he's really just a dirty old man. I could go on and on about this but the simple fact is that I will still probably continue to watch his films just to see what he'll do next and I like movie with kids skating in them.

yea i could see why larry clark could be considered a dirty old man. but i really dont think he is, even though there are rampant teen sex scenes. i mean i think overall, he was trying to get the message out about kids, sex, drugs, and violence. its been a while since ive seen kids, but i remember being shocked. it opened my eyes as to how bad things could get, especially at a young age. if some sex and drug starved teen saw this movie, i dont think hes going to be having unprotected sex the next day, maybe he is, but maybe just maybe becuz of this movie he will stop, and say i dont want to do this. or do u think this movie encourages sex drugs and violence? could be. but i definately dont think this made to get off on teen sex. these were real situations, with real results as evidenced by ur thoughts right after. i think larry definately accomplished wat he was after. i hope his next movie is as good.

There can be an argument made though as to why Clark picks the same subject matter for his movies over and over. Yes this is a real situation but why tell it over and over? The argument can be made that Clark is trying to depict the youth and the body and the fact that in the modern, defective world the only thing teens have control of is their own bodies. They then abuse them and experiment with them as a form of rebelion and expression. However he seemed to have already made that statement several times so why does he feel he has to keep hammering it home? I think his films have too much shock value and too much teen sex for the narrative, it has no purpose most of the time. I don't believe Clark has a message other than seeing if he can get away with what he is doing for the most part and I don't think he is trying to send a message to teens to not have violent sex.

As for vice magazine when did I say I hated it?
