I have a soft spot for the original Pink Panther movies that star Peter Sellers as the bumbling Inspector Clousseau… so naturally hearing about a new modernized Pink Panther movie I was more than a little skeptical. Steve Martin is the funnyman who has been called upon to fill Sellers’ shoes, and the poor guy’s career has been pretty lacklustre lately. When he was relegated to playing the token unhip white guy role alongside Queen Latifah in Bringing Down The House, I had a feeling he was pretty close to rock bottom. But after seeing this trailer for the The Pink Panther I see a glimmer of hope… he just might pull it off. He’s got the bad french accent down and the bewildered facial expressions… all he needs are some sufficiently ridiculous situations to go with them. On the other hand, he might just end up as the token unhip white guy alongside Beyonce instead. The Pink Panther is scheduled for release on July 22nd, 2005.
