You Got Served (DVD)

Some months ago “You Got Served” overtook both “From Justin To Kelly” and “Gigli” on the IMDB as #1 on the Bottom 100 of all time.Quite a feat. I immediately questioned: “How could this be?” It seems so simple. A bunch of dance moves and a simple plot. Doesn’t sound all that interesting really, but not really something so terrible it could ever rank as the number one worst of all time, could it?

And I was right. Don’t get me wrong, “You Got Served” is ridiculously stupid, terribly acted and generally pointless. But it actually has some ‘artistic value’, if you are actually interested in dance moves. Kinda like “2 Fast 2 Furious” might have value if you like cars, or “Cumsuckers 4″ might have value if you are way into the sucking and licking of a hard cock. Chacun son gout, to each his own. It’s all a matter of, does it live up to its goal?

“You Got Served” actually does. It seems to know the story is second to the dancing, and doesn’t really try. Everything from why the main characters are delivering “merchandise” for extra cash, to the deus ex machina dance contest to get out of trouble, to the phoney baloney ego tripping and offing of a character to rally the troops behind the climax dance contest at the end, it’s all half-baked stuff, to the point where it is laughable, yet watchable. It’s quite fast paced and when it was all over I wasn’t all that upset I sat through the whole thing.

So do you really want to know the plot? “Mr Rad” has a club where crews dance against each other. A white group from the OC gets all up in David and Elgin’s area, and well… Dave’s crew gets served. Hard. So they get all pissy and they have to pull it together to show up Whiteboy Wade and his OC crew, and serve them up some dance. Happy now?

The “You Got Served” DVD comes with a handful of extras, more dance moves and flippy crap for one day, and a commentary track that consists of girls in the background yelling “yeah boyee!” “no you DI’NT!”, etc when someone busts a jive move. Very enlightening. We also learn that I guess most of the cast is from the boyband B2K, and that most of the dancers who end up getting served had to pretend they were worse than they were so B2K would look good. The crews that got served weren’t too keen on getting served in “You Got Served”.

So if you ain’t got served by your local video retailer with a copy of “You Got Served”, serve yourself up a big glass of “You Got Served” before “You Got Served” is gone.
